The Real War on Women

"They simply wanted me to be silenced."
Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Liberals seem to enjoy nothing more than touting the imaginary "war on women" perpetuated by the Conservatives in the U.S. The "war" consists largely of denying taxpayer funding of abortions. Even if a woman in this country is free to pay for her own abortion--and she is--not providing a free ride to the nearest Planned Parenthood clinic constitutes "war."

And then there's the Islamic version of the war on women. Now we're getting somewhere.

In a society where "honor" killings of women, female genital mutilation, and girls forced into marriage as young as age nine are all routine, even required, elements of faith, totalitarian control of women is the inevitable outcome. Women's rights activist Avaan Hirsi Ali has suffered all of the aforementioned indignities and abuse. Last week, due to pressure from extremist Muslim groups, students, and faculty, Ali was disinvited from speaking at Brandeis University because she was going to tell the truth. Truthfulness about Islamic abuse of women, especially when presented by a woman with firsthand knowledge, is now labeled "Islamophobic." So much for independent thought and diversity of opinion in the hallowed halls of academia. How pathetic that the motto of Brandeis is "Truth even unto its innermost parts."

The Wall Street Journal was good enough to publish Ali's prepared remarks, which due to willfully blind intolerance shall remain unspoken. I've linked the speech here, with hopes that her words will at least be read

Reading what Ali has to say will go a long way towards teaching us what a real "war on women" looks like.

Vicious Customs

"The natural law can be blotted out from the human heart, either by evil persuasions...or by vicious customs..."
~ St. Thomas Aquinas

The newly appointed CEO of Mozilla has abruptly resigned because of the furor of gay activists over his donation to uphold traditional marriage during the 2008 Proposition 8 campaign. So much for free speech.

Whatever happened to "diversity," anyway? Aren't liberals the self-proclaimed "tolerant" ones? The reality is quite to the contrary. I have never before seen so many hateful, self-righteous bigots in full-throttled, mean-spirited action. Yes, they are true bigots. They go far beyond the need for agreement. Anyone who doesn't wholly endorse them and their "alternative" viewpoint is marked for destruction.

There is nothing "alternative" about this. It appears that the gay extremists won't settle for mere concurrence--they want unchallenged dominance. All Americans who believe that an ideal environment for family life is a male husband, a female wife, and children resulting naturally from that biological union are hopelessly ignorant and must be re-educated in how the new brave new reality functions. Let's start with threatening your livelihood. That should give all dissenters pause.

A page from
Summa Theologica
by Thomas Aquinas
We are at a point in our nation's history where the natural law mentioned in our Declaration of Independence is at risk. "The Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" don't carry much weight anymore in the land of the "free," having been battered by the relentless onslaught of the many "vicious customs" that Thomas Aquinas wrote about nearly 800 years ago. I would name abortion as one such vicious custom. Murdering unborn children today has become quite mainstream. Now, we must endure the destruction of marriage as another. He may have lived nearly a thousand years ago, but the relevance of Aquinas to this shameful, contrived controversy over a man with sincerely held beliefs is proof enough of natural law and how it can be "blotted out from the human heart."

Times may change; human nature never does. In the novel Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini, the author writes that "Man never changes. He is always greedy, always acquisitive, always vile... where there is power, there will always be the abuse of it." That novel was written in the early 1920s. Does it sound very different from how things are today?

"Evil persuasions" are being forced down our throats, but it's best to be quiet about any secret misgivings, all misguided marriage traditionalists. Those "tolerant," "diverse" and oh yes, "open-minded" left-wingers are alert to any syllable of dissent and ready to wreck your life in a heartbeat.

May Nature's God help us.
